About

What is Draw It Books?

Draw It Books creates creative learning tools that help people learn and remember ideas using drawing, wordplay, and imagination.

Our work includes books and the Drawn from Memory app, which focuses on language learning through visual memory and personal associations.

Draw It Books is designed for people who learn best when creativity is part of the process.

Who is Draw It Books for?

Draw It Books is for people who:

Are learning a language

Think visually or creatively

Struggle with rote memorisation

Enjoy imagination, drawing, or wordplay

Want learning to feel more human and less mechanical

You do not need to be “good at art” to use Draw It Books. Creativity here is a tool for thinking and remembering, not a test of skill.

A different approach to learning

Many learning tools focus on repetition and recall alone. Draw It Books takes a different approach.

Instead of asking learners to memorise lists, it encourages them to create personal associations — using images, sounds, wordplay, and imagination — to help ideas stay in memory.

This approach is especially useful for language learning, where meaning, sound, and memory often work better together than in isolation.

Who’s behind Draw It Books?

Draw It Books was created by Chris Davy.

The project began in 2007 as a personal creative idea while studying Film Studies, Media, and Cultural Studies at university. At the time, it was simply an attempt to build something meaningful through creativity.

Over time, that idea evolved through writing, drawing, storytelling, and experimentation. A key realisation was that creativity could be more than an outcome — it could be part of the learning process itself.

This eventually led to the development of Draw-It-Yourself books and, later, the Drawn from Memory app, combining imagination, participation, and learning in a more active way.

Creativity without pressure

One idea runs through everything Draw It Books creates:

This is not about being the best.
It is about giving your best and enjoying the process.

Creativity here is not a competition. It is a way to think, remember, and engage more deeply with ideas.

Art, imagination, and play are vehicles that help people do their best thinking.

If you’d like to explore this approach further, you can try the Drawn from Memory app or browse the tutorials to see how it works in practice.
